Team USA Defeats Canada in First Olympic Basketball Tune-Up

Canada presents competitive play while Team USA figures things out on the court

Despite a slow start and some sloppy play, Team USA pulled out a 92-86 victory over medal contender Canada in their first Olympic basketball tune-up game on September 10, 2023. Team USA trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but they chipped away at the lead and eventually took control of the game in the second half.

Canada's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led all scorers with 23 points, while RJ Barrett added 20 points and Jamal Murray chipped in with 18. For Team USA, Jayson Tatum led the way with 22 points, followed by Bradley Beal's 19 points and Bam Adebayo's 15 points. Team USA shot 45% from the field to Canada's 42%, but Team USA made up for it by hitting 10 more free throws than Canada. Team USA also outrebounded Canada 44-32.

The game was a good test for both teams as they prepare for the 2024 Olympics. Canada is a rising star in international basketball, and they showed that they can compete with the best teams in the world. Team USA, meanwhile, showed that they have some work to do, but they also showed that they have the talent and potential to be a gold medal contender.
