Published May 24 2024 at 12:06 PM ET The Carolina Hurricanes announced Friday that Waddell is starting to visualize the Olympic arena for the first time. He reflects with his wife on how.
Waddell's departure is a major loss for the Hurricanes, who have been one of the most successful teams in the NHL in recent years. The team has won the Metropolitan Division twice in the past three seasons and has reached the playoffs in each of the past five seasons.
It is unclear what Waddell's plans are for the future, but he is expected to remain in the NHL in some capacity. The Hurricanes have not yet named a replacement for Waddell, but they are expected to begin their search for a new general manager immediately.
The Hurricanes are scheduled to open the 2024-25 season on October 12 against the Dallas Stars.
